Axial and Appendicular Skeleton
The skeletal system is divided into the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton

• Axial skeleton: Forms the central axis of the body and includes the bones of the skull, ossicles of the middle ear, hyoid bone of the throat, vertebral column, and thoracic cage (i.e., the rib cage)
• Appendicular skeleton: Consists of the bones of the pectoral limbs, pelvic limb, and pelvic girdle
