Entamoeba histolytica
(amebiasis): Parasite transmitted via fecal-oral route. Clinically, causes bloody diarrhea, typically with subacute symptom onset (over 1–3 weeks). Can also cause liver abscesses. Diagnosis: O&P, stool antigen testing. Treatment: Metronidazole + paromomycin, diiodohydroxyquinoline, or diloxanide furoate.
