- ↑ acid exposure in esophagus, caused by ↑ transient LES relaxations.
- Worsened by ↑ intraabd pressure (eg, obesity, pregnancy)
- ↓ esophagogastric motility
- hiatal hernia
- Rarely caused by ↑ secretory states (eg, Zollinger-Ellison).
- Precipitants:
- supine
- fatty foods
- caffeine
- alcohol
- cigarettes
- CCB
- pregnancy
- obesity
