Workup for idiopathic VTE

Thrombophilia workup

• ✓ if ⊕ FH;
• may be helpful but consider timing as thrombus, heparin and warfarin Δ results
• Useful for relatives, if dx APLAS (given requires warfarin), or if not planning lifelong anticoagulation for Pt.

Malignancy workup:

• 12% Pts w/ “idiopathic” DVT/PE will have malignancy
• age-appropriate screening adequate
• avoid extensive w/u
