Obstructive diseases-disease-specific management of kidney disease

Dx:

renal U/S if undifferentiated or CT abd/pelvic (I–) if suspect nephrolithiasis

Rx:

Foley if urethra vs. perc. nephrostomy if above ureters (eg, stones), tamsulosin/finasteride

Watch for post-obstructive diuresis after relieving blockage, replace ½ UOP w/ ½ NS.

  • Hemorrhagic cystitis (rapid ∆ in size of bladder vessels)
  • avoid by decompressing slowly.
