•   Treatment pearls:

-   Steroid strength typically: Ointment > Cream > Lotion

-   Steroid comfort for most patients (less occlusive): Lotion > Cream > Ointment

-   The best topical medication is the one that the patient will use. As most medications come in different vehicles (e.g., cream, ointment, lotion, shampoo), ask your patient what he/she prefers.

-   Typically, a solitary lesion should respond to correct treatment within 2 weeks. If a lesion does not resolve completely with treatment by 4 weeks, re-evaluate the diagnosis and consider malignancy.
