• Risk factors: ICU patients are considered high risk for VTE given immobility and severe inflammation
• Prophylaxis: Pharmacologic or mechanical prophylaxis indicated in most patients
• Contraindications for pharmacologic prophylaxis: Active bleeding, use of systemic anticoagulation, severe thrombocytopenia, recent or planned procedure, certain CNS lesions
