Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies
• Definitions:
- EMG: Clinical study of electrical activity of muscle fibers
- Nerve conduction study: Clinical study of electrical activity from nerve roots, plexus, peripheral nerves +/– neuromuscular junction
• Indications:
- Localization of lower motor neuron disorders, including anterior horn, nerve root, plexus, peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction, or muscle
- Classification of peripheral nerve disorders as axonal or demyelinating
- Prognostication of clinical course
